In sales some people might described a business development professional also as business-to-business sales, sometimes the business development team and the sales team are the same one. They are also do cold calling or prospecting for potential clients or business partners. They also have to convince other companies that a partnership will add value to their business.
Business development comes in all sizes and in all kind of industries, but on the end they must work with other teams and terms of other countries when the business goes global.
